Wave Hill: Fall for Fall

Autumn is in full swing, so go fish those awesome sweaters and scarves out of your closet, grab your sweetheart, and take a walk among the beautiful foliage. Even if you’re in the skyscraper-forest of Midtown Manhattan, you’re only 30 minutes from the real forests of Wave Hill in the tony Bronx neighborhood of Riverdale—just the place for a spontaneous afternoon date in the great outdoors. Zip up to Metro-North’s Riverdale station, where a free shuttle will deliver you right to the entrance of this spectacular 28-acre public garden overlooking the Hudson River. There, you’ll enter another world, where a living panorama of red, yellow, and orange provides a dramatic backdrop to your every move. Snap a selfie to capture the moment, then walk hand-in-hand along the leaf-strewn paths, taking in the natural beauty of the colorful flowers, majestic trees, and peaceful waters. Stroll among the red autumn sage and orange dwarf pomegranate flowers, whose sweet aroma enliven even the chilliest day. Hike up to the pergola, where the views of the New Jersey Palisades go on for miles. A heavy jacket and pair of gloves are essential, but if you forget them, you’ve got a great excuse to walk close together … and an even better excuse to warm up with a hot drink at Wave Hill Cafe.
