Cut down on the December stress by getting the jump on your seasonal shopping in November. The Holiday Shops at the Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park are already open, with cozy boutiques filling the jewel box kiosks that wrap around the rink. The holiday markets at Columbus Circle and Union Square aren’t quite online yet, but you can be the first to sample the Brooklyn Flea‘s new Winter Flea + Holiday Market, in Crown Heights’ historic Studebaker Service Station. There, vintage and artisanal treasures go shelf to shelf starting Saturday, November 8, with over a hundred vendors ready to cover the most eclectic recipients on your holiday list. There’s legendary Brooklyn Flea food, too, although you might just finish off your spree with a cold draft next door at Berg’n beer hall. Four restaurants provide nearly as much range as the market, running from Pizza Moto to Ramen Burger to the mighty Mighty Quinn’s BBQ. Bring your appetite. Unlike at the shops, just browsing won’t be enough.
New York’s sides will be splitting as the New York Comedy Festival drops punchlines all across the city this weekend. Forget plain brick backdrops, as some of Gotham’s classier establishments are in on the act. Our favorites include Amy Schumer at Carnegie Hall on Friday, November 7, Hannibal Buress at Town Hall Saturday, and Amy Poehler working a panel conversation with Seth Rogen on Sunday at the Paley Center for Media.
Night is coming on an hour earlier: all the better for taking advantage of the inaugural New York Festival of Light. Lasers, light suits, and techincolor projections will be dazzling DUMBO this weekend. DJs complete the scene, spinning from the archway under the Manhattan Bridge. It’s free and open to all—just as soon as the natural light gets out of the way.
If you’re seeking a decadent ending to date night this Saturday, November 8, be among the first to try The Dessert Club by ChikaLicious in the West Village. A tasting counter at this sweet spinoff will let you get intimate with debut desserts like lavender-marinated white chocolate mousse and steamed pudding cake with warm vanilla anglaise. Who needs dinner?
