Candlelight isn’t only romantic, it’s also flattering, which is why you may choose to backlight yourself and your date for a swellegant night out at Thea’s Pizzeria and Cafe‘s popular Friday night prix fixe Supper Club soiree, taking place on a bimonthly basis on the edge of the always-happening hipster havens of Wynwood and the Design District. If over one hundred flickering candles aren’t enough to set the mood, the $49 menu of selections from Thea’s rustic menu of salads, pizzas, and pastas certainly will. Depending on what’s in season, it could include such winners as pumpkin ravioli with butter and sage, or a wonderfully decadent pizza with prosciutto, mozzarella, truffle oil, and Grana Padano cheese.
While the atmosphere’s not quite Fellini, it’s definitely La Dolce Vita, albeit with distinctly Cuban accents. Expect no DJs pushing iPad buttons, no remixes of the latest pop pablum. Instead, a live band playing Cuban ballads from the island nation’s halcyon days of the 1920s-1950s sets the soundtrack for the evening. Get up and dance, or just bask in the intimacy of this 40-person dinner party that begins with a welcome glass of rosé prosecco and continues with a sophisticated selection of wines. As convivial as the ambiance is here, this isn’t your typical dinner party where you’re forced to feign interest in strangers. Thing is, the crowd is so eclectic and enticing, the only thing you’ll have to feign here is your willingness to leave when the party’s over.
