The best views of Miami aren’t from the beach, but from above. You can find a rooftop bar or restaurant scattered throughout nearly every neighborhood of the city, perched on top of hotels, resorts, and even parking garages. Whether you’re on the coast or downtown, here are three of the best roof spots for sipping drinks and enjoying the landscape of the Magic City.
Miami Beach City Center: Juvia
A see-and-be-seen parking garage? In Miami, anything is possible. The hip Juvia penthouse is located, yes, on top of a parking garage, near Miami Beach’s city center. Make a dinner reservation and sit next to the towering vertical garden outside, where you can see everything in the Art Deco District from the bay to the ocean. Snack on light, beachy dishes like smoked scallops from the Japanese-French-Peruvian fusion menu and savor a cocktail or two as the sun goes down.
Downtown Miami: Area 31
Even downtown Miami has an elevated spot for panoramic views. Area 31, atop the EPIC hotel, is surrounded by glass high-rises, the Miami River, and the highway arteries that ring the city beneath your feet. The view is especially dramatic at night, when the buildings’ lights and cars’ headlights reflect off of each other like fireworks over the water. The restaurant has its own herb garden and sources all of its dishes locally, so ask for seafood like the swordfish with chorizo salsa, and order a champagne cocktail to help wash away the workday.
Mid-Beach: La Cote
The glamorous Fontainebleau Hotel’s rooftop bar and restaurant, La Cote, is a perfect spot for a daytime getaway in the sky. Grab your girlfriends and go for a swim in the tableside pool before sinking into the plush, cushioned chairs and ordering a pitcher of mojitos for the table. Lean over La Cote’s glass balconies to watch the waves lap onto the beach, swallowing up your worries and washing them out to the sea.
