While you may not have decked your halls with boughs of holly, your kids have plastered your walls with all sorts of festive Frozen decor, something you fear may be seasonless at this point and having nothing to do with any holiday. But you figure you will give in to the kids at least at 3pm Friday, when Miami’s very popular vegan bakery Bunnie Cakes (2322 NE 2nd Ave.) invites you to Frozen Fridays, featuring all sorts of Frozen-themed cupcakes as well as character appearances, raffles, frozen fractals and, yep, the *$#@%! movie itself. The cupcakes may be gluten-free and vegan, but the lactose intolerant may want to take note of the cheese factor. If you miss this one, you’ve got one Friday left in December to let the storm rage on. The event is free and goes until 6pm. For more information, call (786) 268-9790.
Music + Morsels
From there, check out a free holiday concert on the plaza of the Coral Gables Museum at 285 Aragon Ave., where the Florida Memorial University, Coral Gables Opera, and Coral Gables Music Club will sing carols while you stuff your faces with food and drink (for sale) amidst a beautifully decorated backdrop of holiday lights. While this Holiday Concert on the Plaza is free and open to the public at 6:30pm Friday, December 19, donations are appreciated and will go to benefit the Coral Gables Museum’s goal of offering free transportation and tours to 25,000 Miami-Dade County students during this school year. How’s that for the gift of giving?
For the Rest of Us
On Saturday, December 20, the non sectarian, non denominational, strictly Seinfeldian are invited to a Festivus party starting at 2pm at the Abbey Brewing Co., (1115 16th St.) where an aluminum pole may or not be present while you sip all sorts of craft beers and Festivus-themed cocktails. There’s also free food, but it’s first come, first served and likely to run out way before the 6am last call. Taking it to another extreme, those who do the best impressions of George, Jerry, and crew may win a $50 bar tab. Hello, Newman!
And instead of torturing your poor pooch with a St. Nick costume, consider heading down to Zoo Miami to check out their display of lights, trees, carolers, and Santa. There, from 7pm-10pm every night from now until December 30 (minus Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) you’ll see cute little illuminated families of elephants, lions, tigers, and bears, oh my! 3D glasses will bring some displays to life, but don’t worry, the animals won’t mind. Just don’t feed them the hot chocolate and cookies. Those are for you. Admission is $5. That’s a gift in itself.
