For a casual meal with a side of romance, head to LYFE Kitchen. LYFE stands for “love your food everyday,” and that’s easy to do at this cozy Culver City restaurant that raises healthy eating to an art form. Swing by on your next date night–or just surprise your special someone after work–for a meal that you’ll truly feel good about. Take a table on the spacious patio and start off with some wine as you explore the menu together. Just like the food at LYFE, the wine is sourced from growers and producers committed to sustainable and/or organic practices, and you’ll taste the quality and care in every sip.
As for the cuisine, it’s geared toward “flexitarians,” making it easy to accommodate the most particular diners. It doesn’t matter if you’re a vegetarian, meat lover, or gluten-free aficionado, LYFE has something amazing on its menu for you. The chunky guac ‘n’ chips is a good starter to share, with house-made tortilla chips and flavorful salsa fresca. For mains, the fish tacos are simply sublime. They’re made with grilled mahi, chayote slaw, and chipotle aioli and will remind you of those amazing tacos you had in Mexico back in the day. But then “Art’s unfried chicken,” a specialty of co-executive chef Art Smith, is about as satisfying as 519 calories gets. It’s a choice of grilled chicken or Gardein chick’n–an amazing meatless version of chicken made with veggies–served with an autumn-like mix of brussels sprouts, butternut squash, and dried cranberries. No matter what you order, you’ll steal bites off each other’s plates in an effort to taste as much as possible.
When it’s time for dessert, order a couple of chocolate Budinos. Since even sweets fall under LYFE’s “eat good” mantra, this creamy pudding is made with pomegranate chia seeds and almonds, so it’s naturally low on calories. That means nobody needs to feel guilty about indulging in one of the tastiest dishes of the evening. After your healthy dinner, a walk seems appropriate, so take your partner gently by the hand for a pleasant stroll around the neighborhood. It’s a night filled with good food, good health, and good company, and there’s no need to end it just yet.
