Kick off the holiday season in dramatic fashion by taking the family to see the star-studded Hollywood Christmas Parade on Sunday, November 30 at 5pm. A Tinseltown staple for over 80 years, the parade marks the only day of the year when there are more stars riding down Hollywood Boulevard than there are immortalized in the famous sidewalks, and your whole crew will be mesmerized by the spectacle of it all.
Grab your seats among the buzzing crowd in the grandstands and jam out to “Superstition” as Stevie Wonder, the parade’s Grand Marshal, graces the central stage for the pre-show concert. Jesse McCartney, Heart, and Earth, Wind & Fire, among others, will also get your family moving and grooving as you wait for the main event.
When it’s finally time for the parade to begin, snuggle up with the kids and watch the eclectic cavalcade of colorful floats and giant balloon versions of all your favorite cartoon characters. You can’t help but laugh as Scooby-Doo floats over the crowd with his tongue sticking out, and nobody’s too young or too old to light up at the sight of the newly benevolent Grinch.
Then there’s the stargazing: See who you can spot as countless film and television stars wave from decked-out convertibles with an exuberant brass marching band soundtrack. The biggest celebrity of the parade for the little ones is, of course, the man in red himself. Watch their eyes light up as jolly old Saint Nick closes out the night, smiling and waving from his sleigh. It’s no wonder the Hollywood Christmas Parade once inspired Gene Autry to write “Here Comes Santa Claus.” Even you will get swept away in the magical moment as you recall that gleeful first time you heard those sleigh bells jingle.
When it’s all over, wait out the crowds swarming to their cars and swing into the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop down the street. It’s the perfect place to cap off the night with a round of steaming, rich hot cocoa as you recount your favorite star sightings. With a kickoff like that, this holiday season is bound to be amazing.
