Shakespeare Garden: Walk With the Bard

Tucked away on the campus of Northwestern University is a beautiful little oasis that looks like it would fit in perfectly in Stratford-upon-Avon. The serene Shakespeare Garden is a living tribute to the Bard–and the location of your next romantic day out in Chicago. Since its creation in 1917, the garden has been a popular place for lovers to escape and share some quiet, stolen moments among the hedges and flowerbeds. Hold your sweetheart by the hand and take turns reading the verses engraved on the memorial fountain to each other. Or, for maximum swoon potential, go the extra mile and sneak along a book of sonnets to recite under the bronze relief sculpture of Shakespeare by Leon Hermant (“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?”). Add in a picnic lunch and you’ve got a pretty much perfect day of romance. You’ll feel like you’ve landed smack in the middle of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Just look out for that shrewd and knavish sprite …
