After a long day of shopping and sightseeing in Chicago, arriving at your condo suite at the Guesthouse Hotel feels like coming home — except maybe better. Your fridge and pantry are already fully stocked with your favorite cereal, fruit and coffee, all whisked into place as if by a magical genie. (Actually, the staff put away your grocery order before you arrived; either way, you’re thrilled).
The vintage vibe feels warm and welcoming here: Husband-and-wife owners and first-time hoteliers Dave and Simona Krug have personally overseen the design of the entire hotel, down to their local artist friends’ artwork and the warm, antique pastel colors adorning each suite’s walls. Each suite comes with everything you need… and then some. You can snuggle up with the kids or your sweetie in front of a fireplace, or order “room service” from a selection of nearby restaurants that deliver in-room meals. If it’s nice out, enjoy your meal on your suite’s private deck or balcony. And anyone can grab a drink and head to the shared rooftop deck to enjoy a 180-degree view of the city. It’s like living in a particularly stylish condo of your very own.
But most condo dwellers can only wish to have a common area like the Guesthouse Hotel’s. The fireplace lounge downstairs, flanked by towering doors of reclaimed lumber, holds a wood-paneled library and an overstuffed leather sofa. Grab a book from the shelf and get cozy; you’ll need a place to relax after all your urban adventures.
These perks are one thing, but the hotel is also ideal for helping you fulfill your mission: explore Chicago. To that end, your concierge will be full of good recommendations, and you’re located near enough public transportation to live like a true Chicagoan.
While you’re there, be sure to spend some time in surrounding Andersonville, which is one of Chicago’s most village-like neighborhoods. Formerly a Swedish enclave, you’ll still find the Swedish American Museum and several Scandinavian stores, bakeries, and restaurants – but also a full complement of hipster boutiques and home furnishings shops, all within just a few blocks of the hotel. You can grab yourself a sweet, nutty toska torte and munch on it while you check out one-of-a-kind treasures on the sidewalk rack in front of Mr. and Mrs. Digz – then head back to your incredible suite. Or hop on the ‘L’ and have an adventure. After all, you’re a local now.
