Best Chicago Staycations: Top Hotels for a Chilly Weekend

SHARE

For whatever reason, you cannot get out of the city right now for vacation. That means a staycation is in order for some long-overdue R&R, whether you can get away for one, two or three days. Think about it. You check into one of Chicago’s hottest properties, and you won’t have to leave the premises – and venture out into the cold – because everything you need is under one roof. Pack a bag, then grab your significant other, family, or BFF – and treat yourself to the perfect city adventure. The best part? You don’t even have to make up your bed.

Conrad Chicago (521 North Rush Street)

Adjacent to the massive Shops at North Bridge (which contains a multilevel Nordstrom), this boutique-like hotel features what it’s calling a “Chillcation” through April 25. Two is the magic number, as part of the package (rooms start at $170) includes two Chillcation mugs for complimentary coffee or hot chocolate refills, two signature cocktails from Terrace Bar, slumber amenities for two (deluxe aromatherapy turndown, earplugs, sleep mask), and more. Guests are also rewarded with a $50 credit to entice them to dine at the on-premise restaurant, The Terrace. There’s also a selection of DVDs for in-room viewing.

Hilton Chicago (720 South Michigan Avenue)

The South Loop hotel is close to the Auditorium Theater and Chicago Symphony Center, so you don’t have to worry about hectic traffic before or after performances. Your weekend would consist of two mugs for complimentary coffee or hot chocolate refills, 20 percent off hotel dining (including room service, 720 South Bar & Grill, and Kitty O’Shea’s), and gym access that includes a pool and running track. There’s also complimentary self-parking for one vehicle, with in and out privileges. Rooms start at $110 each night through April 25.

Loews Chicago Hotel (455 North Park Drive)

The Streeterville-based property opens March 2, and you’ll be able to take advantage of a 30 percent discount on rooms through April 12. It’s an entirely new buildout, with the hotel occupying the first 14 stories of a 52-story building. These amenities will compel you not to leave the premises during your stay: floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the city’s best views, a spa complete with outdoor yoga deck, and Iron Chef Jose Garces’s signature restaurant, Rural Society, which is an Argentinean steakhouse concept.

Ritz-Carlton Chicago (160 East Pearson Street)

Through the end of March, you can pack up the family for a weekend of fun at this luxury Streeterville hotel. Book the Suite Experience (starts at $595 a night) for a whirlwind of inclusive activities that are family-friendly. Keep the kids occupied with a cookie-making class (offered every Saturday), a visit to the kids’ toy wagon, specialized spa treatments, and tickets to the Chicago Sports Museum, which is located in the adjacent Water Tower Place. Your family will also gain access to the 24/7 fitness center that includes an indoor swimming pool, steam room, sauna, and whirlpool. There’s also complimentary parking to sweeten the deal.

Soho House Chicago (113-125 North Green Street)

And you’ll feel like you stepped into an all-day, all-night party at this hip hotel in the West Loop. Soho House is so cosmopolitan that even its afternoon tea service attracts the most fashionable folks in Chicago. Hotel guests get most of the amenities enjoyed by members, including access to the heated outdoor pool, full-service gym, cooking and mixology classes, and the screening room for viewing classic and contemporary flicks. The main dining room – open to members and hotel guests only – is the place to be Sundays 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., for The Feast. That’s when a bountiful buffet of everything imaginable, from made-to-order omelets to an extensive raw bar, may be indulged for $30 per person. A live jazz band performs, and for the best experience, try to get the sofas in front of the crackling fireplace.
