Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just roll into a restaurant any day of the week and order brunch? IHOP and the Pancake House may be fine for some occasions, but if you’re in need of a little more pizzazz for your next family day, hit up Kitsch’n on Roscoe. In the family-friendly ‘hood of Roscoe Village, this cheery little oasis is as welcoming as they come. The kids may not get all of the décor’s mad ‘70s references, but you will, and everybody will get a kick out of the collection of vintage lunchboxes (Brady Bunch, Partridge Family), classic ads (Billy Dee Williams for Colt 45), and lava lamps. Peruse the menu as the kids play “old fashioned” games like Connect Four and Battleship. After a few rounds, they’ll be ready to chow down on updated versions of the brunch faves you loved when you were their age. Order “huevos locos” (crazy spicy eggs), crispy hash browns, and a shareable plate of mini flapjacks for yourself, and when they’re not looking, sneak a bite of the kids’ house-made French toast sticks, sugary sweet cereals, or piping-hot cinnamon toast. If you happen to be in an especially retro mood, try the chocolate brownie batter. The gooey treat comes with fresh strawberries and chocolate chip cookie shards for dipping. Just try not to make a bigger mess than the kids.
