Welcome to Woodlandia: London’s Wildest Rooftop Bar

In recent years, London’s rooftop bar scene has really upped its game with scores of new venues arriving each summer. The majority of these close over the cold winter months, but there is one familiar bar that stays open all-year-round, the Queen of Hoxton rooftop bar. Found on a quiet corner in trendy East London, it is ready to cater to all your seasonal party needs.

This year, Queen of Hoxton have built an amazing weatherproof rooftop retreat nestled under the stars and bright lights of London. ‘Woodlandia’ combines a beautiful British woodland theme with cosy winter favourites such as toasty fire pits, hot whiskeys, and an oversized barbecue grill.

Upon climbing the eight flights of stairs to the fourth storey (sadly there’s no lift for disabled access), you step through a veil of green pine and straight into the ‘wild outdoors’, which is actually a cosy, candlelit wigwam (similar to a giant tepee), filled with hanging fairy lights, bark flooring, and moss covered tree stumps surrounding the barbecue grill. The ‘schwenkgrill’ centrepiece cooks up a different meal each night, ranging from venison burgers and wild boar sausages to bourbon smoked BBQ beef brisket.

Order a warming drink from the wigwam bar, where you can choose from a collection of comforting, wintry brews such as hot buttered rum, whisky eggnog, or a ginger hot toddy. With hands cupped firmly around your drink, you venture outside into the fairy tale set-up, pull up a toadstool by the bonfire and enjoy the rooftop views across East London.

The fairy lights and the enticing smell of wood-burning campfires ignite nostalgic childhood memories. So, you treat your inner kid to some marshmallows from the bar to roast on the fire, just like old times.

After a night out at Wigwambam Woodlandia, your belly is full, your hands are toasty, and your inner child is in a glorious state of marshmallow heaven. And the best part is that you’ve had all the fun aspects of a night out camping with friends, but now, instead of retiring to your cold tents, you all get to go home to warm, comfy beds!

WigWamBam Woodlandia is open until March 2015, Monday – Saturday from 4pm onwards. It’s closed on Sundays and some nights for private hire so be sure to check their Twitter page before you go.
