Within a breakfast bowl’s throw from the historical Jack the Ripper crime scenes, a new ‘cereal killer’ dominates the East London streets. But have no fear: The worst thing that can happen to you at Cereal Killer Cafe is getting a sugar rush. Britain’s first cereal bar just opened its doors in (where else?) the epicentre of creative and trendy London, Brick Lane. It’s the perfect location for a pit stop whilst exploring Shoreditch with your friends.
The cafe is open daily from 7 a.m. till 10 p.m., so why not start off your day there with some nurturing breakfast cereals or toast? Then stop by later in the day to take a break from your shopping among the many vintage and designer boutiques Shoreditch has to offer, and fuel up on a sugary bowl of puffed, toasted, or flaked yumminess.
Once you set foot inside the cafe, you immediately feel like a kid in a candy shop. You start to get a little dizzy, seeing all the box-filled shelves lining the exposed brick wall. Big, colourful, cheery boxes – some you never thought you’d see again, some you’ve never seen before. With a choice of more than 100 different cereals from all over the world, you might need a minute before you place your order. Will you go for the sensible choice and order a bowl of the organic, low-on-sugar option, or will you indulge your sweet tooth with the honey-coated or pastel-coloured varieties that bring back sweet childhood memories?
While you’re at it, why don’t you add even more crunchy sweetness to your snack? You have 20 toppings to choose from, varying from fresh and dried fruit to chocolate, nuts, and marshmallows. You can even fully customise your own bowl of cereals by choosing the milk of your preference – from the 30 varieties they offer. How about trying oat milk or banana milk with your breakfast cereals? Now is your chance.
Your milk is lovingly served separately in a cute little vintage school milk bottle. If this hasn’t made you nostalgic yet, have a good look around you and see which figures you recognise from your childhood, as the place is littered with 80s and 90s memorabilia. Were you allowed to eat your cereals in front of the TV when you were young? In Cereal Killer Cafe you can. Head to the downstairs area with additional seating and TV sets, where you can watch clips of series such as DuckTales, He-Man, and Scooby Doo while munching away – without fear of mum and dad telling you off.
