Toronto is mad about fashion, and its massive biannual fashion celebration is about to get underway, bringing dozens of designers, models, makeup artists, and stylists to the city to share their best work with the world. Created in 1999 to promote the Canadian fashion industry, World Mastercard Fashion Week now features an eye-popping series of no fewer than 35 runway shows, panels, and other events that introduce the clothes and accessories you’ll be seeing in boutiques and on fashionable sidewalks this fall.
The designs at World Mastercard Fashion Week represent the newest, freshest ideas from the Canadian fashion industry’s most innovative thinkers, so there’s likely to be some serious sartorial risk-taking. Among many heavy hitters, industry watchers are especially looking forward to fall 2014 collections from Joe Fresh, Pink Tartan, Mikael D., Bustle, and Matthew Gallagher, whose mastery of color and draping never fails to leave audiences breathless. But even the lesser-known designers have every chance to cause a stir, as they wouldn’t have been selected by organizers IMG Fashion if they didn’t represent some of the most thought-provoking ideas in fashion today.
Fortunately, you don’t have to be an industry insider to get a look. Much of World Mastercard Fashion Week, which runs from March 17-21, is open to the public, so check the schedule and purchase tickets for the shows you’re dying to see. Better still, get a day pass so you can take in all the runway shows, studio shows, and designer chats you can handle—and we know that’s a lot. Then, round up your most fashionable friends, dress up in something amazing, and head to David Pecaut Square to experience the future of fashion. It’s a beautiful world out there. Wear it well.
