The secret’s out. Comics are cool, and the Beguiling is just the place to find the best of old and new. This modest two-story comic mecca tucked away in Palmerston has an outsized reputation among fans, with what may be the city’s deepest collections of comic books, graphic novels, and fantasy artwork. Call up your nerdiest coolest friends before you head over to do some comic shopping, because you’ll need multiple people to cover all that the Beguiling has to offer. Dispatch a couple of your mates downstairs to peruse the wide range of indie comics. Accompany the rest of the crew upstairs, where superhero stories, anime, and manga live. You’ll all be blown away by what you find, so don’t be surprised if you wind up spending an hour or two perusing the merchandise. You’ll certainly be in good company. Over the years, the Beguiling has hosted events for such legendary artists as Robert Crumb, Neil Gaiman, and Jamie Hernandez, and the incredibly passionate staff–ask them anything about comics–founded the free three-day Toronto Comic Arts Festival in 2009. Once you’re made your purchases, hit a nearby cafe and get to the very important discussion of who was the greatest comic book hero of all time.
