Is the cold weather giving you and your kids a case of cabin fever? Don’t go out of your minds, go out of your house and head to the Art Gallery of Ontario, where your whole flock will be entertained with exhibits and activities designed to keep the winter blahs at bay. As you approach the gallery, you’ll know you’re in for something special, as a futuristic, newly-constructed façade designed by Frank Gehry beckons you to enter. Once inside, you’ll find more than 80,000 works of art spanning the first century to today, including the largest collection of Canadian art anywhere.

Don’t let it overwhelm you. Instead, beat a path to the Weston Family Learning Centre, a hub for creativity and learning where kids can explore the galleries, take art classes, and leave with a fun-filled activity bag in hand. As the little ones excitedly show off their masterpieces, grab your phone or tablet and download the Time Tremors treasure hunt app, a museum-wide interactive scavenger hunt sure to turn any visit into a bona fide adventure. The kids will be so tickled to see familiar paintings in a whole new light—and learn a few ancient secrets—that they’ll happily tag along with you later to explore more grown-up exhibits like the Great Upheaval: Masterpieces from the Guggenheim Collection, which is on display through next year.
