Universal Studios Singapore at Resorts World Sentosa is a magical place where movies come to life and thrill rides abound. Comprised of seven themed zones, from New York (‘Big Apple’ skylines) and Madagascar (great for younger kids) to Ancient Egypt and Sci-Fi City, there is so much on offer at Universal Studios Singapore, fittingly ranked as the number one amusement park in Asia by TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice 2015. It’s no wonder then, that tackling such a mighty theme park with your family in tow can seem like a daunting prospect. You want to make the most of your day trip to Resorts World Sentosa and keep each member of your family happy without wasting time in the queues. The answer? A VIP tour.
The VIP tour promises a visit to all your wish-list places, the privilege of jumping the queues, and a meet-and-greet with your favourite characters, without elbowing your way to the front for a photo. You set off to Resorts World Sentosa bright and early—as soon as Universal Studios Singapore opens and before the sun gets too hot. The techie in you has already downloaded the interactive park map so you can familiarise yourself with the park layout, but in truth you can leave all the actual park navigation to your guide. You’ve given your guide the low-down on your sons’ penchant for Elmo from Sesame Street, your daughter’s love of Madagascar, and your partner’s excitement at riding Battlestar Galactica. Your guide personally escorts your family through the park so you can make a beeline for what is at the top of your list.
Your first point of call is the Sesame Street stage show for the kids to check out Elmo, Bert, and Ernie singing about their dreams of being a fire fighter, a police officer, and a palaeontologist. Then it’s on to Madagascar, where your little ones enjoy a ride on the carousel and are delighted to meet the cast of Madagascar, the photos of which will be sent to the grandparents as soon as you get home. Next up, it’s the adults’ turn at Sci-Fi City for some action rides: a 3D, heart-racing adventure joining Optimus Prime and the Autobots to save the city from evil. Then on to Battlestar Galactica, a high-speed roller coaster with two tracks to choose from. It’s the tallest of its kind in the world, taking 90 seconds to complete an eye-popping 1 kilometre route. Adults giddy, kids delirious, you are then whisked off to meet the Minions, see the Hollywood Dream Parade, and check out Shrek’s Far Far Away Castle. Your guide knows the Resorts World Sentosa park like the back of his hand, so there’s no losing valuable time going down the wrong route. You manage to pack in so much more than you would on your own, plus the VIP status lets you officially queue-jump for all the rides!
When it’s time to stop for some refuelling, try Mel’s Drive-In for American themed burgers, fries, and milkshakes, complete with a 50s music jukebox. Prefer something more upscale? You have your eye on the fine dining at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, but you’re out-voted in the end for the Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora. The family is all in to experiences its celebrity iron chef status and amazingly convenient location. You dine inside the aquarium with a backdrop of the gigantic fish tank and its beautiful ocean wildlife—a fittingly dramatic end to your A-list day of thrills.
