Orchard Road is exciting all year round, but the month of December, with its Christmas lights and decorations, make it unforgettably special. Every Christmas you find yourself having to push through the crowds of shoppers hunting for gifts, but this year you’ve got a few ideas in mind for the children, so you head straight to The Paragon to pick up some beautiful clothing for your kids to put under the tree.
Gardner and the Gang
If “delicate and distinguished” appears on your shopping list, then you’ll certainly want to know more about Gardner and the Gang, the creative brainchild of Kristin Nystrom. Kristin is a Singapore-trained graphic designer who screen-prints her designs on organic fabrics. She understands how sensitive children’s skin can be, so she only uses only the best fabrics. By using only the purest of materials, and sourcing OCS certified cotton, she believes that your clothes can enhance your life. This season’s artistic designs, all hand drawn, tell the story of animals from polar countries who come to live in the tropics, and all the designs are variations on this season’s current theme. Although Gardner and the Gang do not have a brick and mortar store, Kristin’s entire line of clothing can be ordered exclusively online.
Heading directly up to the fifth floor of The Paragon, you find yourself in an area devoted to shopping for kids. You see toy shops and clothing stores, but first your eye is drawn to a magical boutique, Little Colette. As you enter, you’re in awe of the feathers and decadent dashes of pink that make up the décor. You spend a while among the carefully curated selection of dresses, handbags, and delightful hair accessories for little princesses. The boutique carries beautiful pastel lamps shaped after Rapunzel’s tower, which are perfect for mothers who want to spruce up nurseries or bedrooms without straying from the little princess theme.
First Few Years
Next you head over to First Few Years where you find a beautiful range of organic Egyptian cotton for those under 24 months. Under the Nile is a gorgeous brand of stylish babywear created from cotton sourced through an ethical, fair-trade process. Designed in California, it’s created from hand-picked cotton and dyed with natural colours, which makes a dainty gift for both discerning mother and child. A few shops further up, Château de Sable is an excellent choice for gentle, beautiful fabrics fashioned into chic French designs. You find yourself loving the baby blue cotton-cashmere mix cardigans and utterly adorable miniature scarves and bootees.
On your way up to the fifth floor, you noticed the tempting treats at P.S. Café, and by now the thought of some waistline-friendly, flourless orange cake and a flat white is very appealing. If the children are with you, there’s a few cool things they can do while you take a break. Older kids can get busy over at Fidgets, which will keep them happily occupied with fun arts and crafts while you work your way down that Christmas shopping list. Younger infants can enjoy a royal, pampered experience at BB Spa. Baby spa treatments here are done using Japanese spring water, which is practically guaranteed to bring out the little prince or princess in them.
